Genital aesthetic surgeries – Labiaplasty

Genital aesthetic surgeries – Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty — surgery to correct the shape, size and symmetry of the labia minora and majora.

In recent years, as women have placed importance on aesthetic comfort alongside health, interest in genital aesthetic surgeries, and especially labiaplasty, has increased. Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct the shape, size and symmetry of the labia minora and, in some cases, the labia majora. This surgery is not only about appearance but also aims to eliminate functional discomfort. It is usually performed in cases where the labia are larger than normal or asymmetric, where physical discomfort occurs when wearing tight underwear, during sport or during sexual intercourse, where there is aesthetic concern and loss of self-confidence, and where there are deformations related to childbirth or aging.

How it is performed

Labiaplasty is a minimally invasive, aesthetically oriented procedure and can be performed under local or general anesthesia. The surgery takes on average 30–60 minutes. As a technique, the labial tissue is cut or shaped according to need, and sutures are made with cosmetic and self-absorbing threads. During the surgery, preserving symmetry, sensitivity and functionality is the main goal. If needed, labiaplasty can also be performed together with other aesthetic and functional genital surgeries (vaginoplasty, perineoplasty, etc.).

Preparation

During the medical consultation, needs and expectations are discussed and individual planning is carried out. Before the operation a gynecological examination is performed and, when necessary, tests are done to rule out infections. The patient should inform the doctor about any medications used, especially blood thinners. It is recommended to schedule the operation for a time outside the menstrual period.

Recovery

In the first days swelling and redness may be observed and usually decrease within 1–2 weeks. Mild pain occurs and is managed with simple painkillers. Keeping the area clean and dry and following hygiene rules is important. A break of 4–6 weeks is recommended for sexual life, and sport and heavy physical activity are restricted for the first 2–3 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Does labiaplasty affect sexual sensitivity?

When the surgery is performed with the correct technique, the main goal is to preserve sensitivity and functionality. Many women note that sexual comfort increases once the discomfort is eliminated. Individual results may vary and expectations should be discussed with the doctor.

Do scars remain after the operation?

Sutures are usually made with self-absorbing threads and along the natural folds of the labia, so scars are often not noticeable. After full healing, the aesthetic result becomes clearly visible.

Labiaplasty has an aesthetic and functional purpose; the decision should be made after a medical consultation, taking individual expectations into account. The time frames given are for general guidance.
